A proposed match between a human and a kangaroo named Rocky has been knocked out, thanks to an online petition. Animal rights activists got wind of the event, which was to be held on February 13 when the Star Family Circus comes to Oxford, Mississippi.
Activists claim the circus has been cited multiple times for animal rights violations; according to the petition on Change.org, "Boxing matches are extremely stressful for kangaroos, who, despite their size, are delicate and skittish animals...they must be harassed and bullied into defending themselves in boxing matches."
According to the Clarion-Ledger, the pressure worked; Oxford Police Chief Joey East told the paper, "There will be no kangaroo and boxing match of any kind."
Rocky was recently featured at a fight in Natchez, Mississippi, which like the February circus will be, was organized by the local National Guard.
